crafternoon show and tell

our crafternoon last saturday was so much fun - full of old friends and new, old crafts and new and, well, old and new cocktails! it was very christmassy. 

inspired by the gift cards i was sent, i decided to try out some potato printing! not something i have done since primary school, i think. but i am really happy with how they turned out. (the cow design is based from here). 
 

a friend was making christmas decorations out of "claydough" a kind of flour/water mix that she baked (last time she made this stuff, she was 13). 
 
and finally, more on the sculpture from last crafternoon-it's really starting to take shape!

we also had crochet, crochet, more crochet, wedding invitation making and a fabulous range of food. and my new favourite cocktail, which i have renamed sundowners (i think it is actually called "african breeze"):
1 part crushed ice
1 part cointreau
2 parts amarula

mmm, so so good (the crafternoon that is, not just the cocktails)...

ahh, what a saturday we had. unexpected sunshine. good food and a crafternoon.

 




there was great food (easy peasy chocolate cake, fabulous and melt in your mouth macaroons and blue cheese scones) 




 

 

 
i was working on making a quilted sandwich for my next quilt project

there was drawing and painting going on, but mostly i wanted to show you this: sculpture by my lovely friend. (sorry some of the pics are blue-ish - i forgot to turn the filter off)

 she was sculpting it out of this weird aerated concrete stuff, and it was so much fun!

 

i couldn't believe how great it looked by the end of the crafternoon. the finished product is going to be fabulous!

crocheting crafternoons

ahh, don't you just love crafternoons. craft, coffee, food - what's not to love!
 
some friends and i had another one of our semi-regular crafternoons yesterday. it was really lovely. curried pumpkin and parnip soup. double chocolate muffins, freshly brewed coffee and the star attraction - crochet. 

i was finishing off the baby blanket (more on that another time), and a couple of my friends wanted to learn crochet. so a-crochet-teaching-i-will-go i thought to myself. 

despite claims that it looked too hard, and would be impossible to remember how to do. by the end of the crafternoon, there were squares being produced around the room, and i even had to leave my spare crochet hook on loan... 

 (and i did warn them about this crochet thing being addictive - it really should come with a warning label!)

(although a confession, most of the yellow ones here were actually made by the fabulous sayraphim at another of our crafternoons)...

crochet really is addictive, isn't it? (but in a good way...)

crafternooning along

i love all the creative people i have in my life, friends and family who are also keen on making things. creating things. a few of us have gotten together and started having crafternoons - every two months or so. we pick a saturday, invite people along and eat and make stuff, and talk and laugh and create together. its so lovely. and it was yesterday. we have people doing all sorts of arty/crafty things... painting sewing wheat bags doing crochet (and no, this is not mine, i'm still much more beginner than this) eating much yummy food, and drinking Ethiopian coffee and for the first time - we also had a pottery wheel to play on it was just brilliant to spend a saturday in this lazy yet creative way.

oh what fun...

its so nice when you have lovely people in your life who are full of artistic-ness and creativity. its especially nice when you decide to spend the day with some of them - making stuff. i spent yesterday with some lovely friends (old and new) eating, drinking and generally being creative together. there was paintingand journal covering more painting and me - well, i was granny-squaring. all in all it was a fabulous day.
