I know it doesn't look like much yet...
...but I can't wait until I have time to finish it!
And this is just the prototype. I am making a gift for a friend's new baby, based on one of little-miss-e's favourite toys. It needs a few tweaks here and there, so I am glad I made a prototype rather than just running ahead and making all the mistakes on the real thing. And also, little-miss-e will get to have this one when it is done - so that is lovely for her too.
Oh, for some time to myself to finish this and start the real thing! The issue is that we have a small house and so my sewing machine lives in little-miss-e's room. So when she is asleep I can't sew and when she is awake I can only sew for a short time until she gets hungry/bored/wet/pooey etc...Oh well, slowly slowly it'll get there.

what day is it again? or crochet necklace inspiration
I was going to post for Wordless Wednesday, but then suddenly realised that it is actually Tuesday! (This maternity leave caper is a little day-less, if you know what I mean).
After making a few crochet necklaces I decided it was time to check out what other people have been crocheting and get some "inspiration" (I think it's worth reflecting on the difference between inspiration and nicking someone else's idea - but that's for another day). So in no apparent order, here are some of the fab necklace designs out there that I am feeling inspired by:
Again I am left with the question - just how many crochet necklaces can I get away with owning?

from this lovely collection full of insanely amazing pieces, but actually made by this lovely crochet genius |
this is from here, but also actually made by Lavender Field |
from here - although is this a necklace or a scarf? whichever it is, I love it! |
from here. Ok so this one really is more of a scarf, but I love it too! |
From here: I love the long drop of this one - I wish I'd thought of that for the necklace I made the other day. Maybe I'll have to chain another... |
And how fun is this? I love the idea of crocheting around some big beads... |
Again I am left with the question - just how many crochet necklaces can I get away with owning?

crochet for the cold and miserable
I've had a nasty coldy/fluey thing this week. And it has made me pretty miserable. So much so that my lovely husband gave me an afternoon off. He took over looking after little-miss-e for the afternoon, whilst I lay on the couch watching trashy telly and feeling sorry for myself. My fingers were itching to do some crochet but my brain had very limited capacity. The thought of planning out the pattern for the baby blanket was too much for me. As was even sewing together the circles to finish my last necklace. About all I could manage was chain and double crochet.
And ta-da another baby proof necklace...(although truth be told, I do need to fix up the catch on this one. When little-miss-e pulls on it at the moment it comes undone. And she does that often).
Do you have a project you do when you are feeling cold and miserable?

hello 2013: one word
Maxabella invited us to give a one word focus for 2013. I've been giving it a bit of thought and I realised that for me, 2013 will be all about
home
because after our three month away adventure, it's nice to be home
because I have a least another 6 months of maternity leave left and will be spending much time at home
because we want to focus on de-cluttering, cleaning up, unpacking, throwing out and making our home a more usable space for our life
because we want to spruce up our front garden
because home and family are intertwined
because I want to work on feeling content with our home
because home is where our family relationships are built and strengthened
and because ultimately my hope lies in a future home, a new home - one with no pain, no tears and no death
What's your one word 2013 focus?
