nothing to do with anything

well, except graffiti and stenciling and knitting and jam and...

firstly: check this out! i rode past it yesterday and absolutely had to stop and take a pic

i love stencil art! and this one particularly - the cards are real. such a fabulous design! so i just had to share.

in other news, whilst i've been too busy to blog, i still have been finding scraps of time to get creative. i have put down the hook and picked up the needles for a bit - and learnt a new stitch - moss - its really easy and quite enjoyable and works perfectly with this wool.
don't you think? who knows, maybe this year i will get addicted to knitting!

i've also been making burnt fig emergency jam - its fig emergency time of year-

and in other other news - 6 weeks to go. woo hoo!

two quick things

neither of which i made, but i just wanted to share:

firstly, this knitted bike lock cosy, on the bike i was parking my bike next to this week. isn't it cute!
and secondly, this baby cauliflower, growing in our garden! i'm not the gardener around here, so i can't take any credit, but still, its so cute, and soon to be so yummy!
hope you are having a great saturday!

more knitta please

so, it turns out that knitta please is not just for holidays. i've been riding past this for the last week or so on my way to and from work.

there's something about knitted graffiti that just makes me smile. and the added benefit is that it makes me think of holidays...

more holiday knitta please

ok, so i have the dreaded post holiday lurgy - i'm stuck at home on the couch, wrapped in a blanket and trying really hard not to cough all over my nearest and dearests. so i thought i would share this holiday gem with you to cheer myself up. i seem to stumble across knitta please when i go away (see here). this is not a bad thing, not at all. and as i was walking along todd mall in alice springs on my first night there and came across this tree. how fantastic is it! done as part of the alice springs desert festival that was on while i was there. i love seeing how the idea of knitted graffiti has spread so far around the world. i have a few more holiday snaps that i may post, but mostly it was a time of reflection, relaxing and planning. i have so many schemes running around my head, inspired by the colours and textures of the red centre (and by the very long drives between places which gave time for thinking, pondering and planning).

where the old, unfinished and tragically unfashionable becomes new again

so, i posted about how i went to canberra a few weekends ago and got to hang out with some family. well, talk with my step-mother turned to crafting, knitting and my new found crochet skills. she then reminded me of the jumper i had starting knitting when i was in high school. not only that, she pulled it out of the cupboard, and asked me if i was ever going to finish it... ah, no. i do remember that i even had to knit the back twice, as my tension had gone way out, and it ended up far too big. but still, there is no way i would wear this - what was it with short and wide as a fashion statement? so after much reminiscing and a little discussion about the wool itself, i have decided the moment has come and the unraveling has begun.
watch this space for some fun crocheting goodness - i have such a plan!

knitta please

i am up here in canberra for the weekend, and decided to go see the soft sculpture exhibtion at the national gallery - it was brilliant (but no luck if you didn't get to catch it, for it closed today).
we parked and then walked through the sculpture garden to get to the gallery. and what fun - knitta please had been doing their work...

* with photo credits going to my sister - there is a fundamental lesson about using rechargable batteries in your camera that i seem to have missed
i love a bit of knitted graffiti, don't you?
